January 13, 2002 I'm going to begin this one the same way as the last post: Wow... a long period without an update, but this one more than makes up for it. Being this repetitive, I should write sitcom and teen movie scripts. Heh... That's humor, my friends. Seriously though, this post is to inform. A new plugin is now available: the Come Back Plugin. This plugin will email all of the members of the old, unsubscribed list. It will give them a link to click if they wish to re-subscribe. That's all they have to do. All of their information is carried over automatically. So, if you have a growing unsubscribed list, this may interest you. You can see more on the plugins page. I also want to update you on the status of NP Subscriber PRO v1.4 (specially, RC1). The major feature of this release, as grouping was for v1.3, will be administration. Finally, you will be able to easily use the script in a multi-user manner. A brand new all-seeing admin script is being created. This admin script will be used by the main administrator of the list. This admin will have power to do ANYTHING to ANY list. The normal accounts (like what you log in under in the current version) will be stripped down slightly. Normal accounts will no longer be able to do things that deal with anything except their own list. For example, normal accounts can no longer create new lists or edit the main script's variables. These are now moved to the main admin script. The all-seeing admin will be able to send messages to any combination of lists as well. Also, as I mentioned, v1.4 will allow easier multi-user use. Each list will have its own tmp_ip file. This way, two different admins can be logged in under two different lists at the same time. I think these features alone will attract a number of people, and help current users that have a multi-user setup. Also, to further help the multi-user features, I'm working in a messaging system. This will be an email-like system that will allow admins to message each other within the script. When a user logs in, they will see if they have any messages waiting at the top of the screen. They will then be able to view and reply to any messages. If you have any suggestions for the messaging system, or anything else, as always just email me... A timeframe on the RC1 release? Eh... End of January would be nice, but I highly doubt that'll happen. Barring some major distractions, like I had over the surprisingly busy holidays this past month, a February release looks good. As far as a final 1.4... Well, I think it'll follow slightly after the AMD Hammer chips are finally released (April, supposedly -- start counting the days Intel). But, as with v1.3, I started adding more and more to the release, and it took quite a while... November 29, 2002 Wow... Over a month without an update. But, this more than makes up for it. NP Subscriber PRO v1.3 is now available. This is not a release client, but is the actual release thing. Yeah, I know fer real totally. Included in this release, in a nutshell: Blat support. Optimizing. Subscriber searching. Unsubscribed member tracking. List screen/search result display preferences can be adjusted. Subscriber grouping. Brand new HTML manual: no more big, ugly README file. The usual array of fixes/tweaks of bugs/quirks. A more in-depth version of this feature list can be found in the brand new manual. I hope you all enjoy this new release, as it's been in the works since the release of v1.2 on July 19 of this year. So far, this has been the biggest upgrade between versions, and I think that's in part because of the pre-release system. That system allows me to get new features out faster while still polishing an overall larger upgrade for the final release. I still have a number of features I want to integrate. First off, you can expect a new plugin rather soon. It is going to use the unsubscribed member data. In fact, it's basically the reason why that's in the script... As far as features in the actual script, I'm still looking into a number of ones I've discussed previously. The first of which is an all-seeing admin account. I want to have it in by v1.5, but I will most likely start on that for v1.4 RC1. :) As always, any comments, questions, suggestions: Email me, or post on the forum. Concerning the forum: there are no pop-up ads in Mozilla... ;) However, I've been *slowly* organizing my own little script to handle support. A help-desk/FAQ of sorts made just for me, by me. But, I have no idea how long that'll take me. So until then: email and forum. The movie quote that's been at the bottom of the page since 1.2 was released was, of course, from the wonderful movie Office Space. Ironically, the new quote is another one of Judge's creations. That is, the creation that made him famous. Heh... Heh... Heh... I said "made"... NOTE: Those of you that are here because of the newsletter announcement. There was (obviously) a problem. The subject was extra long because of a last minute bug I squashed about two days ago. Well, that was squashed after I had already uploaded the subscriber.cgi version that was running the newsletter. So, long story short: the version that's in the actual ZIP file is just fine (I even checked...), but I had forgotten to upload the absolute latest version to the server, and I didn't want to send another copy of the newsletter explaining the situation. So, my bad. :) All scripts © 1999-2002 NPScripts.com -- Brandon "Mr. BS" Stewart 100% Made in the US of A! Yee-Haw! "I'm mostly gonna be doing the slots."
