Emerson Publications Would your loved ones know what to do? Would you? Welcome to the Emerson Publications website. My name is Joyce Moseley Pierce and I wear many hats to keep this business going! At 28, my father passed away suddenly. Less than 10 years later, both of his parents had died, and there were no aunts or uncles to make arrangements for them. I'd been to funerals where the minister didn't know the deceased, and that wasn't what I wanted for the two people I loved so much. I recorded my memories for the minister to deliver, and when I saw the smiles mixed with tears on the faces of those who were there, I knew that my grandparents would have been pleased with the memories that were shared that day. Just a few years later, in 1989, I heard about a young mother whose husband was killed by a drunk driver while taking their two children to school. This mother talked about the stress of having to not only care for her hospitalized children, but having to make important decisions while she was consumed with the early stages of grief. It made me think about what my family would do if I weren't there to guide them through the necessary steps. I started by writing a brief history of my life that could be used as my eulogy. I recorded everything I wanted for my funeral. I gathered financial information and recorded it on notebook paper so they'd know where to locate all the important papers. One thing lead to another and I realized I had a product that might be helpful to others. I hired a printer and the first edition of All They'll Need to Know was created. I sold single copies and also reprinted copies for companies that wanted their logo on the cover. For awhile, life got in the way of promoting All They'll Need to Know, but after September 11, 2001, Americans became more aware of how quickly and unexpectedly they can lose a loved one. I decided it was time to update the workbook and start offering it again. In 2002, I was looking for something else to add to the business, but I wanted something that would complement my mission of uniting families. I had the opportunity to purchase The Family First Newsletter and became the editor of that weekly publication. The newsletter is published every Monday for approximately 3300 families with children.
