Through a special process each link opens a new window and the main index stays open on your desktop.After you have finished with that group you simply close that window and click on the next link that interests you. This makes it much easier and faster to use. You avoid having to reload the page complete with graphics and advertisements to find where you left off to resume your search. I found this to be very time consuming with major list directories. This directory contains these links for each Safelist and E-Mail Group. You can see if the group membership is open or closed and how many members the group has. You can see if messages are moderated and if all members are allowed to post. You can see how many messages per day or per week you can post to each group. You can see if message archives are open to the public or closed. You can see what e-mail settings you are allowed or restricted to. You can read and compare your product or service to others in the group. You can see what the ratio of members to messages is. You can see if other members messages are being posted or just the group owner's. You can tell if there are things offered that you are interested in. You can see if the group allows HTML or Attachments in your posting. I receive e-mail every day that the message is gone because the group doesn't allow HTML and it has been deleted. Why post to that group if it can't be seen? To join a group once you are logged in with your Groups identity you simply click on the join this group link which will take you to another page if you have more than one identity or address registered. Choose which identity you want to use and click to join at the bottom and the next page is your confirmation close it and your done. If you have an e-mail account with these groups this can be your identity or you can create a new one as I did. If message archives are closed you can join with two clicks of the mouse button to check the messages and leave as quickly if not happy with what you see. You can leave the group by clicking on the leave group link. Just a few things to remember. You must have or create a Group identity. You must join a group to post to it. Each group has its own rules and to over post is spam. When I was editing the links on March 18,2002 I visited 2202 pages in 8.5 hrs. Yes! I have been to every groups home page. Just to give you an idea of the numbers we are dealing with. I started creating this directory in mid February 2002 and updated again on May 6,2002. In total out of 5591 addresses processed I now have 3468 active groups 1630 inactive addresses in my exclude file not counting the 487 active adult groups. Of the total group addresses that we have processed about 29% were invalid and some people are still posting to these addresses. In the safelists that we purchased and processed the inactive ratio was even higher than that. This showed me how valuable this index really was in eliminating invalid links. Most bulk and high speed e-mail programs even the good ones only validate the domain when checking addresses. This means that if you have 200 different addresses for Yourgroups and 50 are invalid they will still be considered valid because yourgroups.com is a valid domain. As I mentioned above I started this page for my own use. Like you I was looking information and for ways to make money on the Internet. I wanted to promote my web site AAA-Affiliates and the products and services offered there and to see what other opportunities were available. The search engines were bringing me traffic but not enough. I knew that I needed to start promoting in other ways. I knew that e-mail marketing was recommended by the experts from the marketing courses I have taken and I was preparing for an e-mail campaign. But where do you start? To create your own list from visitors to your site as recommended you have to first have a lot of visitors. Then when I was visiting an affiliates site I seen an ad that caught my attention. There was more including how to set up junk mail accounts with the free e-mail providers and how it would generate so much more traffic and sales but thats the basics. Having kicked around the net for a couple of years I took it with a grain of salt but I thought why not? Saving $34.50 would not change my life and it would be a start. So I laid down the coin and downloaded the subscribe and posting lists which consisted of 610 group addresses when I counted them. I thought there had to be a lot of members in each group but I pushed on. I fired up my Mailloop software and subscribed to all 610 in less than two minutes and thought that if its this easy I'll be rich in no time. Right? Now here is where the fun starts! I was not expecting the speed at which I started getting the requests for confirmation e-mails and then the welcome to the group after I had confirmed my address. But the bigger concern was trying to sort out the there is no such e-mail address, this group is moderated and you have to wait for approval and a few others that I can't remember now. Already I started thinking that there had to be a better way. When the dust had settled I was a confirmed member of 210 groups. I knew I had to be more selective and come up with a better way of doing things. Trying to sort out which groups you could post to and which were gone or pending was another fun task but I won't go into details other than to say unsubscribing went fairly well. I then established identities and my own groups with Smartgroups Topica and Yahoogroups. I recommend this as the first step in managing your public e-mail program. I then sorted the list I had purchased into the same categories and into groups of ten to a list which I then subscribed to and made a few postings and then dropped. I would then subscribed to the next list down the line. Having coded the links in my messages I noticed that there was a positive increase in visitors to my site through those links. Another big plus was that the search engines were following those same links to my site and providing listings to the groups I had started as well. It was a very good start but there were still problems with bad addresses. Groups that you got e-mail from but your e-mail never got through and so on. Deleting the lists was very gratifying if not rewarding. I decided to check through the directories and look for better groups to post to. As mentioned above I found it slow and a bit frustrating but I did join a few as I went along. I also started compiling a HTML directory of links from the e-mail addresses of groups that others were posting to in the messages I was receiving.I did this in the same manner as I had with the search engines and found very effective. A shortcut on my desktop and the page would open and from there I could visit each one in a new window and then close to go on to the next. Very fast and efficient.
