what i had acquired through actual work experience made up for all the times i didn’t spend in a college dorm spending my parent’s money getting drunk and getting hypnotized by college professors into thinking that college degrees and certifications somehow guaranteed financial success and wealth!

part of me even went so far as to say, if only i'd known, i wouldn't have wasted my money. . .but i'm a true believer in every experience being a great experiene--spending eleven months in a communist re-education camp in vietnam taught me that!

i know, i know, you’re probably asking yourself, “if he was doing so well, why did he go back to school— to get a degree in what he’d be doing all those year before?”

well, like anyone whose had a reached a certain level of success and wants a refreshing change, and wants to give back to the community, i said, “hey, why don’t i go back to school and become an english teacher?”

then, i could teach high school and live in a cabin in the woods—i was planning on living quietly in some small town in montana—and write more novels. . .basically become a hermit, again.

and that was one problem: i’d already done my “get away from society”, five years earlier, when i went off to write my first book and disappeared into the wilds of alaska to study some very interesting practices of the native healers in the area, and heal the case of post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) resulting from my experiences in central america.

the other problem was i soon learned what teachers get paid--appalling!

that’s when i said, “hey, i want to help and give, but i’d done my “starving writer’s” experience when i first started out as a journalist in thailand as an eighteen-year-old.”
