can’t my child get this same information from his/her guidance counselor?

the simple answer to that question is that yes, the school counselor could probably provide most of this information. there are a few more related points worth considering though.

first, ask your child how much time he spent with his counselor in the last 12 months. the answer may very well be one or two hours—total! if that’s the case, how much help could the counselor possibly offer?

second, wouldn’t you like to review this important info with your child? college selection is one of the most important decisions we face in life. do you really want your child to make that decision largely on her own—even with the help of a well-intentioned adult?
