for most people, buying a home is a terrifying step in life. this is for reasons that are fairly obvious. you are about to put your life savings into one, single item. as well, you probably are about to incur an unprecedented amount of personal debt. be certain, however, that in the overwhelming majority of cases, this will turn out to be one of the best investments of your life.

first, let me begin by saying that this book is not a book about how to become a millionaire real estate investor, “with no money down”. i would not want you to read this book, only to find out that it is a fortune-finding tease, and then toss it onto a shelf to gather dust. i designed this book to be the exact opposite. i designed this book to be your tool - your guide - to accomplishing one simple, very attainable goal - buying a home

over the years, i’ve had more than a few people approach me and ask, “how do i buy a house?” i’m an attorney, so putting the question to me is not as unusual as it first may seem. initially, though, i hadn’t a clue as to what people were really asking. i would say, “put a little bit away each month, and before you know it, you’ll have enough money for a down payment.” frustrated but undeterred, they would come back, “no, i mean, what is the process? suppose i go looking for a house and find one i like. what the heck comes next?”

it dawned on me after a time, that the details of how to go about buying a home are not readily available to the public. certainly, there are courses and seminars for attorneys, real estate brokers and others in the industry, but there are not many sources that outline the process for the average home buyer. thus, the idea for this book was conceived.

this book is, by no stretch, an all-encompassing guide to real estate. it is short, but it is informative. most importantly, though, if you have little or no idea of what to expect when buying a home, this book is understandable.
