dear friend, i guess you could say i'm doing what i always wanted to do. i took the opportunity to start my own home based business online. i was bored of sitting at my little desk (i was based in the city instead of at home!) working like a dog for someone else's business. sure, i was being paid regularly but i never seemed to get anywhere. in the end i decided to go out on my own. i decided to start my own home based business. but where to start? this was back in 1999 just when the dot com thing was in full swing and every man and his dog was trying to make money on the internet with their own business. i decided quickly that the internet was the place to be for my new business at home and started doing plenty of research. i didn't want to spend too much money on this new business venture because i wanted to 'dip my toe in the water' so to speak. little did i realize that the business opportunity i was to stumble on required no additional money at all! i had discovered affiliate programs and the more i read and researched up on them the more i became interested. i also discovered that they were based on "other peoples' products". it seemed too good to be true - many of these programs had no start up fees, no ongoing fees, no exit fees, no administration fees. they didn't seem to have any fees at all. in fact, they were completely free to join. then i stumbled onto the holy grail of affiliate sites - the affiliate program directory. here i saw thousands of affiliate programs and my eyes just lit up with excitement. marketing courses, ebooks, viagra, web hosting, web design, credit cards, gambling, music, auctions, domain names, web promotion, phone services; even coffee! i saw that i could be a re-seller of all these products and services and more. surely this was the way to make a fortune on the internet with my own home based business. i didn't even need to develop a product or service myself! i had found a fabulous online business opportunity that i could start at home immediately and it would cost me nothing to join up. but being a practical kind of guy i decided to do a bit more research first. was this a serious business opportunity? could i do it all from home? i found out that the best way to succeed with affiliate programs was to get my own web site.
